PREVENT PLASTICS
Background
Rapid economic growth and urbanization in Myanmar have come along with severe problems resulting from ineffective systems for waste collection, transport, and disposal.
Poor practices, uncontrolled dumping, and no reliable waste services pollute soil, air, and water, posing a risk to public health and the environment.
The project
PREVENT PLASTICS will work with all relevant stakeholders to introduce sustainable waste management practices in South Dagon Industrial Zone 1, Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone 1, Shwe Lin Ban, and one industrial zone in the Mandalay region. Solid waste generated will be collected and adequately discharged as well as illegal dumpsite disposal practices being largely eliminated from the intervention areas. In addition, PREVENT PLASTICS will make eco-friendly alternatives to plastics more known to the public since the majority of people in Myanmar still have little knowledge about these.
About the organization
PREVENT PLASTICS is funded by the European Union. It aims at promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns through raised awareness and best practices on waste management in Myanmar.
